For a while now, I've been seeing these little "Digg It" icons on various blogs and stories I read. I finally checked it out this weekend.
From the Digg site:
Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users. You won’t find editors at Digg — we’re here to provide a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we’re changing the way people consume information online.
How do we do this? Everything on Digg — from news to videos to images — is submitted by our community (that would be you). Once something is submitted, other people see it and Digg what they like best. If your submission rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see.
The best thing is that you can customize your Digg homepage to pull up articles that might interest you. It's very cool. Digg can be fed directly to your Facebook wall so your friends can see what you've "dugg." Plus, if you don't have enough on-line friends through your myspace or facebook, you can connect with friends through Digg to see what they are Digging in the news world.
It was simple to add the "Digg It" icon to my blog. I've already started getting Diggs from people I don't know. Very cool. Sign up. It's free. So far, I haven't received any spam as a result of my sign up.
