Remember on Memorial Day

I don't think "Happy Memorial Day" is appropriate. Is it?  It's not like Independence Day where we celebrate our freedoms.  Do people say: "Happy Funeral?" 

Enjoy your freedom and when you are remembering those to died to preserve your freedom, remember those that have killed for our freedom. 

A Skeptic After the Rapture

So, I setup the interval timer on my camera, tethered it to the pc and setup an auto upload, just in case. Turns out, I got raptured. Who knew god loves skeptics...and heaven has internet.

Osprey Hates Eagle DSC_7166

I stopped by the bald eagle nest on Round Lake tonight. I watched one of the eagles perched on a high branch for about 20 minutes until it nicely flew off towards me.

After that, I walked up closer to the nest where the other eagles was standing guard. I didn't see any eaglets this time, but I heard there are two in there somewhere.

As I slowly walked back to the truck, I got distracted by an oriole and then by a song sparrow. Lucky for me because the eagle came back...with an osprey chasing it. They both were squawking at each other. The osprey clearly appear as the aggressor and continued to swoop down on the eagle after it landed.

On Saturday May 7, 2011, I attended the Raptor Release Party held by The Raptor Center.  Last year, I made lots of good photos. This year, I think I did better.

The Raptor Center released three red-tailed hawks and one sharp-shinned hawk.   Here is a slide show (click on the little icon in the lower right of the slideshow frame to get a full screen view):
